Q.How does this work?
Book a camping consultation by paying me on PayPal or Zelle.Once you book text me your name and email address. Then I will zap over some cool audio files with camping directions, hiking and food tips. Once you review we will go over any further questions by phone and ill help with your trip planning.
Q.Will you do my consultation free?
A.No.
Q.What is the consultation?
A.I send you audio files with camping info, directions and local tips. Once you listen we'll speak by phone and I'll assist you with your camping/activity trip planning and any special requests. I happen to know the sweet spots off the radar.I'm a avid hiker who has hiked over 135 of the trails..Let's just say camping/hiking wise in Sedona- you are hooked up. You can tell me how many miles you want to hike, what type of hike etc and I will give you a specialized recommendation.
Q.Can we meet for the consultation?
A.Generally, no we don't need to meet. However you can text me during your Sedona visit with further questions and I will get back to you. We might meet if you end up booking one of my scavenger hunts in Sedona. No promises but sometimes if it works for both of us, I meet my last minute day of bookers at Starbucks.
Q.The price seems like too much!
A.Most camping spots are free and I'll give you expert advice on how to craft a super fun trip, you will find scenic spots with my advice you will not find without me. I'll also throw in some audio files with cool tour guide stories.
I have literally spent years discovering these spots. But if you don't feel it looks like a good value, perhaps my service is not for you. That's ok. I realize my service is not for everyone. You can read my epic reviews on Google but ignore the one from the weird guy who sends me dead pig photos!
Q. Is this all car camping?
A. Yep. But I also can offer tips about backpacking adventures in the area.
Q. Should I call you so we can chat for a while first even though I'm not going camping and don't want to book for a few months?
A. No, I think you should be able to find all relevant info on this website.
Q.I have specific needs such as a grassy field to camp, electricity, being in walking distance of town, someone to set up my tent or an exact view from one of your photos. Or i need to camp at the top of Bell Rock!
Is your service a good fit for me?
A. No. My service is to tell you all the available LEGAL options in the area. Camping in the town of Sedona is not legal, there are zero grassy fields and most of the camp sites I refer people to are primitive camping.
If you have highly specific needs, Sedona camping is unlikely to meet those requirements as far as camping options.
Q. I want to move to Sedona and live in the forest. Can you help me with that?
A. No, my service is for short term visitors to the area. Camping over 14 days is illegal and I don't recommend it. This spring they are cracking down on long term stays!
Q. We want a consultation but we don't like the way you do it with audio files and a phone conversation. Can you just send us written directions or a GPS pin instead?
A. Sorry, but no. I have worked with thousands of campers and developed a system that works. People get lost with GPS in this multi-mile area.
Please only book f you have read this FAQ list and are on board with my methods.
Q. You rent gear now?
A. I did rent gear for 5 years but stopped during covid for obvious reasons. I am starting up again wtih a few changes. I'll be able to offer less bookings( so there is a limited supply of gear). Book direct.
Q. How does it work?
A.Your gear package includes a tent and sleeping bag/pad/chair per person as well as a blanket. If you want to request extras like a tarp/pillow/ small cooler I will include them at no charge on an availaibility on pick up basis. It also includes a camping/hiking/consultation and free tour guide audio files. No flashlights included. Bring yours.
Q.What about a deposit?
A. Yes. $100 cash or paypal to be refunded on gear return. I do want to give you your money back but I also want all my gear.
Q. what time is pick up and return?
A. For years I used a pick up between 4 and 6 model and drop off by 10. I used to meet people in this time frame. Now I am allowing more flexible pick up and drop off times but do not promise to meet people in person. You will be given directions on booking. Pick up after 3 anytime drop off by noon seems more than fair and should accomadate most campers. If you need something different let me know.
Q. Is this high end gear?
A. No its basic camping gear. No $500 tents or bags here.If you want high end or very specific brands or items I recommend you buy it( REI is in Flagstaff) and just book the consultation.
Q. I HAVE AN RV. CAN YOU HELP?
A. YES, I know in town great view spots with hookups that are first come first serve( so yes that does mean NO reservations) that are $40 and no hook up sites that have great views that are $20. I can also tell you about free, legal, primitive sites as well.
Q. Do you rent hiking sitcks or sell propane?
A. No, I only do camping consulations and rent a package of gear. I dont rent individual items and I dont rent hiking sticks or sell propane. You might check Walmart or Canyon Outfitters or Hike House.

Secrets of a Sedona Tour Guide
February 11, 2023Its been crazy figuring out how to travel to the amazing places you love or want to see and how to afford to do that if you are not a very wealthy person. I spent two months in Kauai this winter and the door is closing for affordable options.. The cheapest hotels are $300 a night, rental cars ...January 8, 2023I get that it can look like fun to roar around on dirt roads in the mud, but its very harmful to our fragile landscape and severely affects the plants and animals. It also impacts us humans who just want to walk quietly on the land. Please choose hiking, or biking as a way to explore instead. ...September 1, 2022I just surveyed all the camping updates yesterday and have some solid recommendations. Need to be close to the road? want the most remote option with epic views? want more space not close to other campers? want to know where to put your rv with out hookups or with hookups? want to be on the Verde...- Road To Your Campsite

Beautiful high desert camping in Sedona Arizona
- I didnt think you could camp free in Sedona!
Yes, it is possible.
Years ago, most of the camping around Sedona was eliminated. Unfortunately, campers were leaving trash, cutting down trees and in other ways harming the landscape. Now camping is pretty limited but there are some really great and little known options.
It is NOT LEGAL to camp in city limits and I do not recommend trying it!
I also also highly recommend abiding by the rules to limit camping in Sedona to 14 days only.
My job, as I see it, is to lay out all the options you have for camping in the area. There are a few paid sites I know of but I oly give you the info.. you arent booking anything through me and i am not guaranteeing any availability.

Single Women CampingI get a number of single women( some who have never camped) who want to get my feedback on if they should come or not.
While I am happy to provide advice and tips while they rent my gear, only the camper herself can decide if this is something within her comfort zone.I have hiked long distances and backpacked alone and I feel good about it, and to me this is easy car camping.Yet I realize everyone has different comfort zones.Use your intuition. I would say a general rule of thumb for this experience if you are new to it is to ask yourself if you consider yourself an adventurous person and if you want to try new things. Please be aware my phone is off after 8 pm. Do you guarantee we will have a good time?
I wish I could but it's your adventure! Take a leap of faith, if you have a spirit of adventure. Mother Nature doesnt provide any guarantees!
However, you can check out over 1300 happy camper reviews on Airbnb. Some are on Google. I sincerely hope you will be one of them!

The Magical Sedona Adventure! From Sean From Philadelpia:Seriously an experience of a lifetime. I am currently traveling cross country and have seen many national parks and monuments, but Sedona itself and camping out in the desert under the stars was one experience on my trip I'll never forget. This was the first time I have ever camped out solo, especially in on desert in Arizona but Tara from the moment I rented her tent guided me every step of the way. Fairly new to Air B&B, Tara was the most interactive and helpful host. She called me prior to picking everything up, after to see if I was ok and gave me tons of advice on what to see and where to eat in Sedona. She really knows what she is talking about and I had such a great time that I ended up renting the tent for a second night. This just wasn't finding a place to sleep like most Air B&B's, this was an adventure that should be part of anyone's trip when traveling through Sedona.Pet friendlyFrom Shannon From the Netherlands:Tara welcomed us very friendly when we arrived. All the gear was ready to pick up. She gave us instructions how to get to the campingspots and also gave us tips for food, drinks and trips. It was a nice experience. Staying in the middle of nature is a special way to spend the night! Sedona is amazing! Thanks Tara and all the best for you! Friendly regards, Shannon and NormanSedona Happy CamperBernadette from New York:Tara was the perfect person to guide us into this journey! I was hesitant to camp alone for the first time, and Tara patiently answered all of my questions and allowed me to make a decision on my own. I ended up having a friend join me, and Tara was super flexible with our late arrival and moved us right along with supplies so that we wouldn't set up in the dark. Her camp site instructions were very clear, found it without a problem, and the tent was super easy to set up (we got lucky and avoided the rain, but she gave us extra tarps and blankets just in case!). We had a beautiful night amongst the stars. Cant thank Tara enough for making this first timer feel so comfortable and secure!Tara is your camping concierge.A local guide, storyteller and scavenger hunt master, she loves to share Sedona and the Grand Canyon with happy campers!
