The Native people believed that Sedona was sacred land and only came here for ceremonies. Only the chiefs and Medicine men were allowed to come to this powerful place.
They believed this was the land of the first man and the first woman.
Look in the middle of Cathedral Rock and you can see the First Man and First Woman standing back to back.
The legend is that the First Man and First Woman were arguing all the time. They could never agree. She said he never helped her out around the cave. He claimed she nagged at him all day long. Finally, they appealed to the Gods for help. The Gods placed them back to back but together, so they would always have their own views and voice and direction but yet remain together.
If you are part of a couple visiting Sedona, see if you can get a back to back shot in front of Cathedral Rock to remind you to always do the same.
